Description from the creator

The macadamia nuts that I picked were still wet inside and out. They have to be sun dried before you can eat them. Australia has a lot of hot sun all day long so it is the perfect climate for sun drying foods.

The kids placed the nuts on a low lying roof of the dog kennel for a few days to dry out. After they dried the nuts inside the shell actually rattled when you shake them.

Macadamia nuts have a very hard shell and it takes a bit of practice to get them open. Some people have interesting ideas using a table vise and a special form to open their macadamia nuts.

The kids showed me a very simple way using a rock and an indentation in the concrete walkway in front of the house.

You place a nut in the indentation so it cannot roll away and then firmly hit the nut with a rock until it splits open. Then you can eat the nut inside.

Macadamia nuts are a very nice tasting treat.
