Stores charge a lot to cut counter tops. It is possible to cut counter tops smoothly without much preparation with carbide tip blades. We used blades in forward direction, but it can also be installed in reverse direction. Fine tooth blades words too but I find it difficult or more expensive to have carbide or diamond tip fine tooth saw blades. Trick is to practice a bit on a spare piece of counter top, then draw the lines right, make the counter top steady, align the saw to zero offset cut line, don't go too fast, don't panic, stay focused into the line. Cut can be done from the top or from the bottom of the counter top. If there is a bar at the back of the counter top then doing from the bottom side is easier for the flow of the skill saw. Additional supporting wood pieces can be attached to hold the skill saw in a line, but for steady hands of ours, it was not necessary. Work safe, and do at your own risk if you are confident enough only. Work safe and Good luck.
