How To Deep Clean Your Pleated Pool Cartridge Filter #Dirtypoolfilters

Pool cartridge filter cleaning, pleated pool filter deep clean, dirty pool filters, and how to clean a pool cartridge filter cheaply and easily. In this Fix It John video, I show how I deep clean my pleated pool cartridge filters once a year to help the pool pump run more efficiently and improve water flow through the filter.

Update: At the time I made this video, I did not know muriatic acid could be neutralized before disposal. Going forward, I neutralize it first and then handle or dispose of it properly.

If your pool filter is dirty, clogged, or not flowing like it should, this video should help. I show what a worn-out pleated filter looks like, how to tell when the support bands are starting to fail, what cleaning method I use for general buildup, and what to use if your filter is loaded up with oils from sunscreen, lotion, or other pool contaminants.

I also compare the cost of cleaning versus replacing, explain why some filters are still worth saving, and show the difference between the part of the filter that was submerged and the part that was not.

In this video I cover:
How to deep clean a pleated pool cartridge filter
How to tell when a pool filter is going bad
How to clean dirty pool filters cheaply
What to use for oily pool filter buildup
How deep cleaning helps water flow and pump efficiency
When to replace a worn-out pleated filter

What I point out in this video:
If the plastic bands that hold the pleats apart are breaking and falling apart, the filter is getting close to replacement time. When those pleats collapse together, the filter cannot trap dirt as efficiently and water flow suffers.

Important note:
Always use proper safety gear when handling pool chemicals, including eye protection, gloves, and good ventilation. Avoid breathing fumes, and follow the product label and pool manufacturer guidance before using any cleaning chemicals on your filter.
