We get a lot of questions about how you can defend yourself against a front kick.

One of the most obvious ways to know that your opponent is going for a front kick is when you’re talking to him and all of sudden you see him taking a few steps back. This is a clear indication that he is positioning himself to do a front kick.

You have two different options to defend yourself from a front kick.

The first option is to completely step away from your opponent making it that much difficult for him to kick you. By stepping off and simply blocking his kick by hitting his leg with your hands, you’re avoiding him from kicking you.

Keep the self-defense technique simple by stepping off and striking him. Don’t over-complicate it.

Another great option is to jam it by kicking him with your foot. This will block his kick and slow down the momentum giving you the opportunity you need to defend yourself.

Practice these self-defense moves with your training partner so you can work on your technique and timing.
