In brief

Create a striking 3D hand optical illusion using simple line art and a ruler. This trick art technique works well on cardstock and is great for beginners who enjoy drawing with precision.

Key steps

  1. Trace your hand lightly with an HB pencil on 110lb cardstock
  2. Mark where straight lines will intersect using the ruler
  3. Draw the lines with a blue pen, starting with the outer edges
  4. Add curved lines inside the hand with pencil first, then pen

How to draw a 3D hand. Line paper trick art optical illusion drawing.

This is easy and fun to do! I start by drawing around my hand.. I then mark out where the lines will go and then with a ruler I pen in the lines. The trickiest part is making the curves inside the hand, but if you pencil them in first like I do in the video then it shouldn't be too difficult.

Materials used: 110lb cardstock, HB pencil, blue bic pen, red bic pen, kneaded eraser
