INGREDIENTS AND TOOLS:
Dry onion peels (yellow or red)
White eggs
Water
Medium sized pot

OPTIONAL:
Nylon stocking or socks
Kitchen twine
Small, fresh leaves (cilantro, strawberry, grape etc.)

FOR SOLID WOOD-LIKE HUES:
1. Put onion peels into a medium sized pot and add eggs. Don’t overcrowd the pot.
Add enough water to cover the eggs. Bring to boil and continue to cook the eggs in the onion liquid for about 7 minutes.
2. Let it cool completely. Refrigerate overnight. The longer the eggs sit in the liquid the darker they’ll turn out.
3. Remove the eggs from the pot and gently wipe off the liquid. Brush with vegetable oil and let sit for a few minutes before gently wiping off any excess oil.

FOR BOTANICAL PRINTS:
1. Pull a stocking over one hand. Place a leaf on top and then, place an egg over the leaf. Add additional leaves if desired.
2. Grab a hold of the egg with your stocking hand, wrapping your fingers around it. Invert the stocking over the egg. Tighten and twist at the base. The stocking should wrap snuggly around the egg to keep the leaves in place. Secure with kitchen twine.
3. Put onion peels into a medium sized pot and add the eggs.
Add enough water to cover the eggs. Bring to boil and continue to cook the eggs in the onion liquid for about 7 minutes.
4. Let it cool completely. Refrigerate overnight. The longer the eggs sit in the liquid the darker they’ll turn out.
5. Remove the eggs from the pot and gently cut the stockings open with scissors. Peel off the leaves. Brush with vegetable oil and let sit for a few minutes before gently wiping off any excess oil.
