How to Eat a Kumquat
ChannelHow To Food RecipesDescription from the creator
A kumquat is a citrus fruit that resembles a smaller, ovular orange. Kumquats grow on trees and are sometimes very bitter when not ripe.
1
Selecting the kumquat
Get a kumquat. You can pick the kumquat off of a tree, buy it at your local farmer's market, or find it in some grocery stores with extensive produce sections. Unlike many fruits, the kumquat is actually in season during the winter.
2
Preparing the kumquat
Wash it thoroughly. No matter where you get the kumquat, you should wash it thoroughly, especially if you'll be eating the skin.
3
Prepare the kumquat. Though the skin is edible, if you'd like to peel it with your fingers just as you would peel a clementine, or even use a knife to peel it or cut it in half, that's fine, too. The kumquat will have a few seeds, so if you're committed to peeling it, you can pick out the seeds with your hands.
4
Eating the kumquat
Eat the kumquat. If you've peeled some of it, just hold up the flesh to your mouth and suck on it. You can bite the whole inside and then spit out the seeds, or take small bites, being careful to spit out any seeds. If you didn't peel the skin, just take bites of the kumquat with the skin on, as if it were a large grape -- just remember to watch out for seeds.
