How to FIX A TOILET that keeps running | QUICK EASY DIY
When you see rippling water in the toilet bowl, it means that water is leaking from the tank into the toilet bowl. Often, it’s because the he flapper is worn out or damaged and is not making a good seal at the opening with the valve seat. There should be no movement of water in the toilet bowl after the flush is completed. If your toilet flushing system is really old, replacing the whole system is much more cost effective because it’s really inexpensive (around $15 -20) to buy the entire system , and replacing is an easy DIY job. But if you want to do minimal work, try replacing just the flapper. There are lots of flappers, so you should take the old one with you to the hardware store so that you don’t make the mistake of getting the wrong one that doesn’t fit your system. Also, you have to know the size, sinc there are 3 inch flappers and 2 inch flappers.
If the flapper isn’t the problem, then the problem is most likely going to be with some other component of the flush valve system, and in that case, I would definitely recommend that you replace the whole system because you will need to separate the tank from the toilet bowl anyway to replace the flush valve, so you might as well just replace the whole system for around $15 rather than replacing just the flush valve for around $10.
