Here is the ONLY way that worked for me on how to fix WINDOWS XP Sound. I'm not exactly sure if this works for VISTA or anything like that but I think it might. Right now I'm using Windows XP 2002 Home Edition! Thanks!

Step-By-Step

1.Go To Start
2.Hit Run
3.Type in Msconfig
3.Go to Services
4.Hit Enable All
5.Restart Computer
Your audio should be fine after that.
