Diane with the Kingwood Garden Center explains how to identify and get rid of chinch bugs in your lawn.

Chinch bugs are pests that attach themselves to grass and suck the juice from it, causing the grass to yellow and die. As the dead grass area spreads, it causes irregular brown patches in your lawn. This happens most frequently near sidewalks and driveways.

The affected area looks very similar to Take All patch; however, the treatment for the two is very different. You must look for the bugs themselves to determine which it is.
