How to Grow Allamanda Cuttings - Secrets Revealed!

UPDATE June 2020. I originally believed these were Mandevilla plants. Thanks to viewer comments I now believe they are actually Allamanda, possibly Pink Allamanda cathartica or Allamanda blanchetii. I hope it's not confusing when in the video I refer to them as Mandevillas.

NOTE: No rooting hormones or anti-fungal agents were used to grow these cuttings. The weather never got below 75F / 24C and the humidity was quite high.

Growing Allamanda cuttings can be challenging. I started with 9 fresh stem cuttings that were about 5" - 7" (10-12cm) long, and each one was placed in an individual container so that if root rot or fungus was a problem, it would not effect the other plants. I only put enough water in the containers to cover the bottom node, again to help reduce the chance of fungus. After seven weeks, 78% (7 out of 9) were growing roots, some extensive, some just starting. Of course, "YMMV".

IMHO the secrets to growing Allamanda cuttings are:
1. Patience - The cuttings in this video were grown for 7 weeks. You should allow at least 6-8 weeks to develop a good set of roots.
2. Diligence - Because it takes so long for Allamanda cuttings to root, you must be careful about root rot. I suggest changing the water in your containers at least twice a week. More if necessary. If the containers become dirty or show signs of fungus, they should be thoroughly cleaned, or simply replaced.
