Here are 5 steps on How to Grow Amaryllis indoors in winter.

When selecting an amaryllis bulb to be sure to choose a bulb that is firm, dense and about as heavy as cabbage. Remember that the size of your bulb makes a difference. Smaller bulbs can produce 4-5 flowers, while bigger bulbs can produce 3 stems with 6-8 blossoms.

Although Amaryllis can be grown in just water, it's easier to get results using soil. Choose a pot that's deep enough to give the roots at least 4 or 5 inches of room to fill out. The pot should also have a drainage hole in the bottom.

Put some moist growing mix into the pot. Settle the bulb on top of the mix. The shoulders of the bulb should be exposed above the soil surface.

Water your Amaryllis thoroughly after planting. After that, do not water more than once a week, until the sprout is visible. Overwatering can rot the bulb.

Place the pot with the bulb in a cool, bright place. Choose a location where you won't forget about it. If planted in December your Amaryllis could sprout in just a few short weeks. Fall-planted bulbs may take a bit longer. Don't give up!
