We are The Successful Esthetician! We started a YouTube Channel to help Estheticians with business tips for every stage of their career.

Today we are talking about how to be successful at your Esthetician job interview.

Don't forget, you are not just being interviewed, YOU are interviewing THEM as well. Keep your eyes and ears wide open as soon as you walk in. Look around and ask yourself:

- Is it a place you will want to work in?

Things to consider when applying for a job:

1. LOCATION

- How close is it to your house?
- If it is too far, the likelihood of you lasting there is reduced.
- HOWEVER, if you want to work in a wealthier neighborhood to bring in more revenue, you may need to work farther from home.
- Can you realistically see yourself going back-and-forth for at least 6 months?

2. MANAGEMENT

- How do they handle the interview?
- Are they prepared for the interview?
- Do they seem disorganized?
- Do they seem preoccupied or are they paying attention to you?
- Do you like the feel / vibe of the spa or salon?
- Is it clean?
- Does it smell nice?
- Is it organized?
- Are other employees relaxed or running around and stressed?
- Go in a second time to make sure the location and management is a good fit for you.

If they hire you on the spot, that is a BIG RED FLAG. This says several things:

- They just need ANYBODY to fill the position.
- They are not taking the time to make sure you are the right fit for the position.
- They are not giving you the courtesy to think about their offer.
- They are not giving you or themselves time to decide if you are a good fit.

3. ASK TO LOOK AT THEIR TREATMENT ROOM(S)

- Is it clean?
- Do they have supplies well stocked?
- Is it organized?
- Is it disheveled and disorganized?
- This may be a hint that they run their business in a disorganized manner as well.

4. HOW TO DRESS

Make sure:

- Your hands are clean.
- Your nails are nicely manicured and polished.
- Avoid wearing TOO much make up.
- Look natural with clean, nice skin.
- Dress professionally from head-to-toe.
- Avoid low-cut tops and anything too tight.
- This is not the time to look "sexy" or like you're going to a club.
