Write Lyrics Or Melodies? New Rappers Do This

the fastest way for you to grow right now is to make sure you are actually doing the type of practice that matters in your daily routine

What are you trying to get better at?

If you want to get better at writing songs, you need to be creating melodies and rhythms to beats everyday for at least an hour.
But

If you wanna get better at writing lyrics, you need to be writing lyrics for an hour a day
Both skills are ESSENTIAL in songwriting but it really depends where you are at right now in your music career.

Both are very important but as a rapper, lyric writing is very important, usually.

Also, having the writing skills FIRST allows you to write better lyrics to the melodies and flows that you freestyle while creating songs.

So if you already have the lyric writing skills, it amplifies your overall songwriting skills. It increases the speed at which you can write to the melodies and flows and helps you get over those mental road blocks when you can't think of lyrics or you can't create.

For this reason my friend. I actually recommend for the first 3 to 6 months of your music career that you spend a majority of the time writing lyrics.

Memorizing rhymes, learning to bend words, writing patterns, trying alliteration, learning how to use assonance and consonance... They will all come in handy with everything else.
