Five Proven Ways to to increase your brain power and stop forgetting things

Everyone wants to be smarter than they are, and it turns out there are ways to get you there. They don't involve expensive college degrees or experimental drugs, just a little effort on your part.
It may even surprise you how simple some ways of increasing brain power seem- they may already be part of your everyday life.

Here are five proven ways to increase your brain power every single day.

Number one- Aromatherapy. Smelling different scents won't make your brain bigger, but it can help you use it more efficiently. Rosemary can help with mental clarity, peppermint with fatigue, and basil with focus. Oils can be used with diffusers, put in bracelets or necklaces designed to hold them, or applied to the skin as long as they are not irritating.

Number two- Memorize things. Forcing yourself to use tools like mnemonic devices can help you improve your memory. Make lists into words by assigning letters to each item, or try rhymes to remember certain peoples' names. You can have fun with this too!

Number three- Organize. A clean environment means a clearer mind. Having a mess around you only stresses you out and keeps you from focusing on what's important. Write down important info in one place, set spots for your keys and other important items, and make a schedule for cleaning and other tasks. Get into a good flow with organizing, and you will reap the benefits.

Number four- Sleep better. Get things done before bedtime and follow a routine. It can be difficult to avoid working right before bed, or sleeping in on the weekends, but changing your sleep schedule can give your brain the boost it needs. Set periods throughout the day to work on things like studying so you don't stress before bed. Keep electronics to a minimum before you sleep as well. The hardest change may be resisting that snooze button on the weekends, but a set schedule can be much more beneficial.

Number five- Play mind games. Work your brain out with brain games like sudoku and crosswords. These games can force you to think in new ways, but they will also provide you enjoyment. Timing yourself can help you improve attention, processing speed, and intellectual engagement. These benefits have been shown to last in those who play games as they age.

Not everyone is an Einstein, but everyone has a brain they can improve. Aromatherapy, memory tools, organization, sleep, and mind games are some of the ways you can improve yours. Every person benefits in their own ways, but trying a sudoku puzzle at lunch or going to bed a bit earlier can't hurt.
