It's got nothing to do with your skills in this department; it's just that you're not compatible conversationally with certain guys (which probably means you're not going to be compatible in other ways).

If, when you're talking to a gentleman, it's like pulling teeth to get him to respond, or you just feel like you're moving through tar trying to have a conversation, he's not the one. Move on.

How to Keep a Conversation Going With a Guy #2: Key To a Good Conversation? Listen

Be a good listener, and he'll do all the talking.

Here's something most people don't get: most of a conversation is simply listening.

Open-ended questions are good, but just make sure you don't come off like you're trying to interview him for the role of husband (why did your last marriage end? how long have you been on dating apps? what are you looking for?).

How to Keep a Conversation Going With a Guy #3: Repeat The Last Statement He Made

Get him to open up by repeating what he said.

Here's a great tip on how to keep a conversation going with a guy when there's a lull, and you don't know where to take it: just repeat the last statement he made.

If you struggle to keep a convo going, simply by saying the last phrase of what someone has said — especially if he's a talkative person — will make him continue the conversation.

How to Keep a Conversation Going With a Guy #4: Make Conversation a Fun Game

Ask hypothetical questions to break the ice.

Sometimes a way to add a little fun to the conversation is to make it a little game. Ask him hypothetical questions like:

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it
be?
What would your dream job be in your next life?

You could even tell him you want to play a game like 21 Questions or Would You Rather as a way to get to know one another. Playing games like these ensure that you never run out of things to say.

I find this helps my coaching clients: realize that he's in the same boat as you, too. Somewhere out there, right this moment, the next guy you're going to go out with is Googling "how to keep a conversation going with a woman."
