Description from the creator

In this brief video I show how to screed, or level, poured concrete without using a form board. In this case the new concrete is being poured next to an existing concrete patio. The new concrete will be poured directly flush to the old structure but at a lower elevation. Placing a form board was not an option so I created a screed jig. The screed was made using a piece a wood fencing material with a specialized cut out to allow the jig to rest on the old concrete patio while recessing the appropriate amount into the new concrete space.

All the videos of this concrete patio construction project...

This concrete screeding technique worked well for this particular situation. A similar approach could be tried when pouring concrete against a wall if a temporary board were mounted to the wall first above the height of the new concrete. Then the screed jig could rest on the board similar to as shown on the concrete pad in this video. Another way of how to screed concrete against a wall would be to use expansion material. The expansion joint material would be mounted to the wall and could serve as a form board when the new concrete is poured.
