How to look clients in the eye on video calls
ChannelBrighton West VideoDescription from the creator
It's important to look clients in the eye, and even more important if you're on a video call. UPDATED VIDEO: youtu.be/ol0dcoXE05M
You can cheat by drawing eyeballs on your webcam, or you can be authentic by using this setup. This is the best tool to help you look at the camera without feeling strange. It's perfect if you want to look good on Skype interviews or on your coaching calls.
I've been searching for the best simple solution to this problem for years. I've tried using an iPad, buying a desktop teleprompter that mounts to your computer (youtu.be/cn4LUoIpf1M) but this is the most straight forward and easy to use system I've found. If you're using Zoom or Skype to connect with clients or you're using these for interviews and you're serious about looking great and creating an authentic connection on a video conference, then this is the answer.
Here's the gist:
1) A teleprompter mirror reflects the client image from...
2) An external portable monitor in front of the mirrored glass.
3) An external webcam.
And the links to buy these items (affiliate links):
1) teleprompter: amzn.to/3HeuWIE (the teleprompter from the video was discontinued, but this is a great alternative.)
2) external monitor: amzn.to/3Wi4TVf (original discontinued, this is a great alternative.)
3) c920 webcam: amzn.to/1QLEmq6
The monitor and webcam are plugged into USB or HDMI ports on your computer and you can mirror or extend your monitor onto the external monitor.
The monitor I now recommend is different from the one in the video, but it allows you to invert the monitor, so that when it's displayed in the teleprompter mirror, the image is correct (you can read text, left is left, right is right, etc.)
