How to Make a Living as a Background Actor - TV/Movie Extra ????????

How to make a living as a background actor (aka TV/Movie Extra) is a good question to ask. Until you make it, you may discover that your life and lifestyle will change to make it work as an actor, model, or any other related career. Everyone’s story is different, and I just share my own experience with you guys. If you want work as a background actor, and specifically here in New York, you’ll want to get to know the background casting agencies in New York. There are a number of websites out there that are great, but I’m just going to mention Casting Networks. Casting Networks was the main website that helped me get most of background work with Central Casting NYC, Grant Wilfley Casting, Waldron Casting, Comer Casting, and more! Before signing to my talent manager, I had a nice little streak of booking weekly! Since we're focusing on principal work, I no longer focus on background work. There are definitely some people who find it difficult to get background work, but it can be done – I did it! I have friends too who make a living as a background actor, in combination with being a photo double and a stand-in.

To do work as a background actor, or a TV/Movie Extra, you don’t necessarily need to find a talent agent in New York, or NYC acting agencies, or talent agencies wherever you’re located. You also don’t need a talent manager to get background work. I have heard of background actors, or TV/Movie Extras, who have gotten background work through their agent or manager, but it’s not necessary. If you’re looking for how to get a talent agent in New York, or wherever you’re located, it should probably be for other purposes than background work. But that’s just my thought on that. Whatever you feel lead to do is what you should do.
I wish you the best! You can do it!
