Description from the creator

On today's Wedding Tip Wednesday, we discuss how you should get your marriage license here in Montana.

Start at the Clerk of District Court office in the county that you live in (not the one you're getting married in if that's different).

You'll be handed the proper paperwork you'll need to fill out with your spouse and witnesses later. This paperwork is good for 6 months from the date they were issued.

We suggest obtaining your marriage license paperwork about two months prior to your ceremony.

Ont eh day of your wedding, the bride signs this document with her new last name, while the groom, the officiant and at least one witness from each side will sign this document. You'll have 130 days to turn it back into the clerk of district court office you obtained it.

In Montana, there is a $53 dollar filing fee, and both the groom and bride should be present, as the clerk will need photo ID from each of you to finish filing your license.

Afterwards, you'll be handed back the decorative license, as well as official documents to use when changing your last name with the social security office, the dmv, etc.
