How to start a casino business? More and more often I get this question from business people. Some are just curious and some are actually considering opening a casino.
For those who are not familiar with the gaming business I created a very simple and short presentation.
There are two types of casino businesses - Offline casinos and Online Casinos. Offline casinos are physical casinos and players are playing at real tables or slot machines. Online casinos offer games online. They can be played from desktop computers or from mobile devices.
Offline casinos can be land-based or floating.
There are 2 types of land-based casinos:
1. Standalone Casinos, where the casino is without additional services like hotel rooms and convention centre;
2. Casino in a hotel - either a city hotel or an integrated resort with many amenities complementing each other.
Floating casinos are located on boats - Riverboats, Cruise Ships and Ferries.

There are two main types of Online casinos - Web Based casinos where players do not need to download any software and Download Casinos where players must download online casino software first.

Where to start if you wish to begin with a casino business?
Just like with any other business you can either start with a completely new project and open a new casino or take over an existing casino.

If you are new to casino business or have only vague understanding about casino operations you must have an experienced casino professional to lead you through initial stages – market research, feasibility study, business plan, casino floor design, casino equipment purchase, recruitment and training of personnel.

Although any mistakes can be corrected, some might turn out quite costly and some might not be possible to rectify at all. For example,
- If you choose a casino and slot management software and later realize it does not serve you well and is not what you need for your casino, most likely you will have to continue using it unless you want to spend $200,000-$300,000 to change it.
- If you purchase slot machines that are not favoured by your target market, your revenues will suffer.
- Flaws in your casino floor design might keep you from getting maximum returns or even increase your operational costs.

If you are thinking about setting up a casino business, do you research, analyze and start the business.
