Tip #1: Set goals and remind yourself of your goals. Setting goals is a given, but reminding yourself of them is not always one. It's important to track your progress because achieving a goal is a good feeling so when you see how close you are to reaching one, it'll hopefully give you that little boost of energy and motivation that you need.

Tip #2: Under promise so you can over achieve. One of my greatest friends / second moms / told me this one and I can't begin to explain how much it will help you. Driven people want to succeed and to a lot of people success involves pleasing or satisfying other people's needs. Say you're helping a friend with a project and they ask you how long it will take you to finish. You may finish in 2 days but there's a chance you could finish in 4. Now here's the thing that often kills people and makes them lose all motivation. Most people will over promise and say they can have it done in two days. This is because they want to please, and do a good job quickly and efficiently. But what happens when it takes you 4 days? Now you look bad and feel bad for missing your deadline. You over promised and over delivered. Instead, you should say 5 days (that's the under promise part) and then if you get it to them any sooner than 5 days, it's over delivering in their mind and yours! This applies to your own personal goals too because oddly enough, it's mostly a mental concept. Say you set a goal to get a 4.0 next semester. Well, if you fall short and get a 3.5 you're gonna feel sad and unmotivated and as if you didn't accomplish anything. However, if you set the goal to get a 3.2 and then get a 3.5, you'll be more proud of your accomplishment! Because you under promised what grade you'd get, and you over-delivered (you got a higher grade than you thought). PS - this doesn't mean you should aim low.

Tip #3: Give yourself breaks sometimes even the most determined and hard working people get overwhelmed. And being over whelmed won't help you to be as productive as you can and it certainly won't help with your feelings and attitude about the task at hand. As hard as it is, as much stuff as you may have to do, you need to give yourself a break. Getting burnt out is the number one cause of losing motivation and no longer loving doing the things you used to love.

Tip #4: Don't be so hard on yourself. The reality of the situation is that every single person falls short sometimes. Whether you didn't reach a certain goal, or you got rejected from a job or an audition, or you didn't do as good a job as you could have, realizing that this is completely normal will drastically change your motivation levels. Too many people spent time sulking and complaining about how they didn't wake up early enough or comparing themselves to others. By realizing and accepting that rejection and failure are NATURAL aspects of life, I promise your mind will be much more at ease. This also goes for the vicious circle that is beating yourself up FOR being unmotivated. If you have a lazy day or can't seem to be motivated one day, just accept it and realize that tomorrow is a new day. Again with tip #3, it's OK and normal. Sometimes you just can't do life that day and that's okay.

Tip #5: Raise the stakes for yourself. Now if the "feel good" method of getting your motivation back doesn't work, there are other ways to hold yourself accountable. One good way to combat procrastination is tell your friends and family your goals and what you plan to and need to accomplish in the upcoming week. Those who care about you will naturally be curious as to how you did so you don't want to let them down do you? If that doesn't work, go a step farther and take away your cookie privileges or make yourself
