Articles, thesis, essays & others – In 4 simple steps
Step 1: Read the requirements carefully
What are the given requirements?
Are you supposed to summarized the advantages and disadvantages?
Which paragraphs are you supposed to summarize?
Step 2: ANNOTATE THE TEXT
Start highlighting or underline the KEY points in the text.
Number your points if you are required to.
Make sure to avoid irrelevant points!
Step 3: Start writing your summary
Paraphrase your points if necessary.
In most cases, copying will be penalized.
While paraphrasing, DO NOT change the original meaning of the sentences.
Otherwise, no marks will be awarded.
Step 4: Check, revise and rewrite
Check for grammar and spelling errors.
Rewrite some phrases if necessary.
Make sure that the entire summary reads fluently.
Use transitional devices to improve the flow of the summary text.
 Finally, make sure you do not exceed the word count limit (if there is one).
