How To Update Your Garmin GPS ???

Recently, I was given the task of updating my Dad's Garmin Nuvi 52 portable gps device. I thought it would be as easy as downloading the Garmin Express software, installing the Garmin Express software, plugging in the device then updating it. Unfortunately, that didn't work.

Do you know how to update a Garmin GPS like this? If so, leave a comment.
