Description from the creator

A few thoughts and opinions to help you navigate the shoulder rest selection process! - Things I forgot to mention:
1) the Playonair brand of shoulder rest, which are a sort of blow-up pillow. They function much like a sponge, but adapt to your shoulder shape and stay on the instrument nicely - some people really love them.
2) The total thickness of your chinrest, violin, and shoulder rest (if it comes to the edge of the instrument) - should probably not add up to more than the length of your neck if you want to avoid headaches!
3) Chinrests come in different shapes - depending on the shape of your jawline, you may find certain models quite uncomfortable, and it is easy to change them. - Which is to say that in chinrests you are considering height as well as shape.

The piece I played an excerpt of at the beginning of the clip is "Banjo and Fiddle" by William Kroll - it's an encore piece that was popularized by Heiftz and Kreisler in the mid-20th century. There's a lovely performance of the whole thing by Leonidas Kavakos here: youtube.com/watch?v=tcxwZUQZ6DM&feature=rel…
