Before you Improvise you'll need to know two things. The key of the song and the tempo for the track. Ignore these two elements and you're in for a world of sonic pain and misery!!

The 4 Improvising Keys 🔑:
1. Lick Subdivision
The first key involves taking a familiar lick and playing it using different subdivisions. Using quarter notes, eighth notes, eighth note triplets, sixteenth notes and sextuplets, you can turn one lick into 5!! This is huge for generating new sounds with old material.

2. Lick Addition
To use lick addition, take a familiar lick and add one extra note to the sequence. This creates a completely different sound with very little effort. Also a brilliant way to create new sounds and ideas 💡

3. Melodic improvising
In this strategy we basically play random notes within the key. The truest sense of the term "Improvise." No licks allowed in this method, only melodies. It can help to restrict yourself to one string at a time to work on this technique.

4. Harmonic Improvising
In this secret key, we'll focus on playing chords to embellish the song. Try Arpeggios, or playing the notes of the chords separately. You can also use chord inversions to add a different angle to the sound. This is an advanced form of Improvising. Enjoy and take it one step at a time.
