How to learn the notes on the fretboard? It's not as hard as you may think. With this method of using octave patterns, it's in fact quite easy!

There are only 5 octave patterns, and once you know them, you'll be able to find any note you want, all over the fingerboard. Just find a root note (C in this case) and voila - the whole fretboard is available to you. It becomes a "well-known place filled with friendly faces!"
