You will need to obtain a doctor's affidavit that establishes that the ward (the person for whom a conservator is sought) is not competent to manage his or her own affairs, or is not competent to manage his or her own medical care. It is the need for some third party looking out for the well being of the ward that makes the need for the conservator necessary. You have to prove that. It is likely that you'll have to post a bond for performance of your duties.
