Poinsettias aren't just for the holidays. With a little GLC (green loving care) these tropical delights will thrive this summer and into the fall and winter.

1. I live in the DC area, so around May is when the days and nights are warm enough for my poinsettia to live outside.
2. For 2-3 weeks, I just let it soak up the fresh air. It's usually very happy to be outside!
3. Then comes the hard part! I cut it back to 4-6 inches above the soil line. I repot the plant to a large planter.
4. I keep the poinsettia well watered and then it can enjoy the nice summer weather. No direct sunlight.
5. In July or early August, there's usually plenty of new growth. So I pinch it back a little just to give the plant a good shape.
6. At the end of summer, the poinsettia comes back inside.
7. During the first week of October, I start putting the poinsettia inside a dark closet for about 15 hours a day.
8. By November or mid-November the plant should be rebloom and ready for the holidays!
