How to Celebrate Thanksgiving During COVID
In this video, Denver Health's chief medical officer and infectious disease specialist Connie Price, MD, gives tips on how to safely celebrate Thanksgiving in 2020, during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Among her advice is that the safest thing to do is to only celebrate Thanksgiving with the people in your own household. This advice is especially important for those who are most vulnerable to getting severely sick from the coronavirus, including the elderly, pregnant women, smokers, people with COPD, chronic kidney disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes and the immunocompromised.
If no one in your house falls under the "most vulnerable" category and you have guests over for a Thanksgiving meal, Dr. Price said the gatherings should be kept small (less than 10 from only two households is ideal) and only one person should be serving all the meals. Social distance when possible as well.
