Series on movie / film analysis itself.

Part 1.
THE IMPORTANCE OF COMBINING THE MOVING IMAGES WITH THE STATIC SCREEN

it seems that we as an audience focus too much on the moving images only. We don't really take into account the importance of the static screen when we try to make sense of a movie.

when one purely focusses on the images, one stays inside the frame itself. one gets kind of stuck into composition, opposition and association.

when one -on the other hand- combines the moving images with the static screen, there will be some opportunities to go beyond the frame/screen. this is because the moving image and the static screen are of different levels.

so image and screen at first have to be taken apart from each other. after this, image and screen should be combined in order to go beyond the screen.

when image and screen are merged when analyzed, the tension between image and screen is equal to zero, which means that there's zero energy to go beyond the screen.
