1. Avoiding your typical “pick-up lines” to start a conversation. You want to start a conversation with an honest compliment. Something specific about her outfit, her hair, or her makeup. Something that shows that you’re really paying attention to her and that you appreciate the effort she put into her appearance. Keep in mind, you may have misread the eye contact, or she was just being kind towards your glances. If she rejects you, or doesn’t really seem interested, don’t push your luck, just be ready to walk away. There is always another girl that will be more interested in having a good conversation with you.

2. Another option for how to approach a girl at a party is by paying somewhat close attention to her surroundings and see if there is an opening for you. If she doesn’t have somewhere to sit and looks like she’s trying to find one, help her out. If she seems visibly upset, ask her if she’s okay. Try to avoid pointing out that you’re trying to help her out, let her notice your kindness and gentlemanly actions on her own. Plus, if you point out to her that you’re helping her, you may put her on the defensive or make her feel that you think she needs help and no one likes to feel helpless.

3. If you want to bring her a drink, don’t just leave it at that. Ask her if you can grab her a drink and sit down and chat with her. It’s easy to just offer a drink, but it’s also easy for the girl to take the drink and carry on with her night if she thinks you see her as an easy target. So by asking to open up the conversation with her, you’re showing her that you’re willing to put in the effort then she will be more open to your advances.
