Description from the creator

At the beginning of every school year, I think it is important to assess students' reading abilities. I start the school year off with small group/guided reading groups so I can learn more about my students. This time together also offers me the opportunity to get to know my new students on a personal level as I get to ask them questions about connections to the text and more about their lives.

I keep a running record each time I meet with students and then take that information to organize this Reading Ability Chart. This chart is great because I can keep it in my binder and since the names are on post-its, I can easily move students to different categories.

This is a short video to show you exactly how I assess and organize reading abilities with my 5th graders. This system could be used with any grade. It is easy to follow and implement! Enjoy!
