Learning how to properly bill insurance in private practice can be really overwhelming at first. Many private practice counselors elect to use a billing company to do it for them which avoids the hassle but costs money...anywhere from 3% to 7% on average. If you have 20 clients a week and the average insurance reimbursement is $65, that would be $156 to $364 per month you are losing by not submitting insurance claims on your own. While I know my video is specific to using availity.com and they do not have access to all insurance plans, they do have the most common. Other clearinghouses operate in a similar fashion so you would need to do your homework to see which clearinghouse worked for you and the insurance companies you are credentialed with.
