How to choose a home builder ‐ Finding the right builder & what new home buyers should look for. What makes a good home builder? What to look for when finding the right builder for your new home. When choosing the right home builder to build your new home, there are several key areas to evaluate the builder for. When looking to find the right builder, focus your investigation on the builders' Trustworthiness, Quality, the choices offered and what the buying experience or building process is like.

I’m Steve Turner the New Home Specialist and in this video, we will look at each of these factors and how they impact you when looking for a home builder or choosing a builder to build your new home.

It is important to choose a trustworthy home builder. While many home building companies are, there’s always 1 or two who are not, and in return, they taint the reputation of all home builders. Reviewing the ratings, awards and any referrals or reviews from other buyers can give us insights into the character of the homebuilder and the ability to trust them.
In addition, the financial security of the home building company can give us insights into the builder’s trustworthiness as well. That info may be available from the various homebuilder's associations or even from the trade partners that work for the homebuilder.

Another area to investigate when choosing a home builder is, do they have the right choices or options available for you. Some of these choices could include the location, the home plans and even their ability to customize their offering to your wants and needs. Some do a better job of this than others. No one way is best, it’s a matter of ensuring you find a builder who can deliver on the requirements you have for your brand new home.

Quality varies by builders as well, and many times quality can be very subjective. In this case, we’ll consider quality as the builder's ability to stand behind or back up the home they are delivering. What type of new home warranty are they providing? What kind of service can you expect and most importantly, what is their track record of actually being there for you after settlement on the new home?
Another way to view quality is by the brand names and materials the homebuilder uses in the construction of the home. Typically, the better brand products will come with better warranties and lets you know the builder values name brand items, which usually mean fewer hassles for you in the future.

Speaking of hassles, looking at the home buying process or experience is important when considering which builder to work with. How involved does the builder allow you to be in the process? Do you even want to be involved in the construction process or would you rather let the builder do their thing and make it as smooth and stress-free as possible? Regardless of your preferences, you will find builders have different processes or requirements when it comes to buying or doing business together.
