Description from the creator

This video gives the full detail on how I clean my chimney each year. I started out sweeping it every month (4 years ago when we first bought this house). I had never burned wood for heat before in my life, let alone in my own house that was 100 years old! The first year I swept it every month to be sure since I had no idea how much creosote I'd be creating with my new furnace. It didn't turn out bad. The next year I did it every couple of months. The year after, I swept it before and after the season. And now I just sweep it once prior to the heating season and I've not had issues. Thankfully my chimney doesn't hold on to too much creosote, I think half because it does run pretty hot and long during the cold months trying to heat this old house.

I have a chimney broom from Canadian tire, its a wire brush, and measured to fit my chimney liner. The process takes about 30 minutes and half that time is just getting the ladder up to the roof. The sweeping part is simple and the clean out at the bottom is straight forward.
