Allowing them to speak and get it all out will make them feel more valued and appreciated. It will also make them respect you more and be more receptive to what you have to say.

Understand: Try to get on their level. Remember how you saw the world when you were that age. Think about what they may be going through and thinking. Then respond with this in mind.

Talking to Kids isn't hard, it just requires patience and understanding. When you take the time, however, you build a stronger bond and ability to positively influence them in the future.
