In today’s FAQ Friday video, we’re discussing, ‘How to Create “Super-Goals” for Your Organization.’

Did you know that over 80% of small business owners do not keep track of their goals? Having a small business, a non-profit, or an organization without creating effective goals is like playing in the Superbowl without a scoreboard. There isn’t a way to gauge whether or not you’re winning or losing.
So, how do you create effective goals? Try defining your goals based on a simple acronym – S.M.A.R.T. This acronym won’t only help you set up your “marketing scoreboard,” it will also keep your business motivated towards achieving greater success!

The “S” in S.M.A.R.T. stands for “specific.” Your goals should be clearly defined and actionable to help you stay in the zone! For example, the goal of “Increase Sales” is a little too broad. A more specific goal would be something like, “Increase online sales by 10% through social media ads.”

“M” stands for “measurable.” When creating your goals, include benchmarks or “stats” that allow you to measure your success. These are often called KPI’s or Key Performance Indicators. Some examples are: how many conversions do you want your ads to drive? How much do you want your click-through rates to increase?

“A” stands for “achievable.” If you’re currently achieving a click-through rate of 4% on social media ads posts, a goal of growing to 50% within a month is biting off more than you can chew. To ensure goals are within reach, base them off of internal data, because not all industry benchmarks can be applied to your business.

The “R” in smart stands for “relevant”. Make your goals relevant to the brand mission and your business’s “strategic playbook.” You should have strong reasoning and purpose behind each of your marketing objectives.

Finally, “T” stands for “time-bound.” In the same way that football players need to know how much time is left in the game, your goals also need to have a deadline as well. Avoid going into unnecessary “overtime” by ensuring you have a clear beginning and end to your objectives.

Here at Priority Marketing, we help clients create and accomplish S.M.A.R.T. goals every day. And, if you would like to start creating your own S.M.A.R.T. goals, check out our downloadable resource link in the description!
