How To Deal With Argumentative People (Competitive Types)

Once every three years, I meet someone who seems to have the life mission of having an opinion and disagreeing with everything that people say. These guys seem to seek validation from being the one to make a point and prove others wrong. These guys are very annoying because they don't understand the concept of harmony (or keeping their voices down). So how do you deal with these people. I give you one way that's worked with me.
