How to Deal with Your Micro Manager
Channellivemorenow.netDescription from the creator
Why Do Managers Micro Manage
It can be difficult to get any work done when you have a manager constantly hovering over you and critiquing your work. So what are some of the reasons why this happens. Many times managers, especially when they are new to their position, can feel anxious about their new role without realizing the impact this has on their subordinates. This can be particularly frustrating for employees because how do you handle that, especially if you love your job and the company you work for.
I’ve got your top 3 reasons why and a couple hints to fix it.
#1 They Feel Disconnected
Sometimes managers can feel like they are losing touch with the day-to-day goings on, the actual work of the organization. One of the ways you can remedy that is by proactively providing managers with updates, reports or feedback. Try asking your manager if you two can meet on weekly basis so you can provide them with a recap of what you’ve been doing and how things are going.
#2They have a hard time letting go
This is a big deal for some people, particularly if they’ve been doing the job that you are now doing. They may have a difficult time if you do the work slightly differently. They may assume, that because they are now the manager, that they know the best way, or only way to to manage your workload. Ask your manager for their insight. Managers will likely be able to relax if they see that you value their input and expertise.
#3 Lack of trust
Managers are humans too with their own weaknesses. For some people, trust doesn’t come naturally. They may feel intimidated that you’ll out perform them or make them look bad by not fulfilling your objectives. At this point, you should take an honest inventory of your own performance. Have you given them any reason to distrust you. Perhaps you’ve been phoning it in lately or missing deadlines. At that point, it’s on you to demonstrate that you are trustworthy. But assuming that’s not the case, one of the best ways to build trust is to spend time communicating with your manager. If possible, take advantage of opportunities to socialize outside of work when they arise. By building a relationship with your manager, trust will begin to develop.
None of these tips are a magic bullet nor a quick fix. Unfortunately sometimes people need that long term relationship to understand that you are a good worker and deserve to be left to do your job on your own. Obviously if things got down right toxic, I’d recommend looking to transfer to another position or department or talk with Human Resources for advice on how to handle. If need be, you might need to begin looking for a new job. Hopefully that’s not the case but if so, I have tons of other videos on how to manage the job search process.
I’d love to hear from any of you about your personal experiences with your micro-manger and perhaps how you were able to improve the relationship. Please click subscribe for updates. Thanks for visiting livemorenow.net
