How To Eat Slowly To Avoid Overeating | How To Lose Weight

What's the opposite of fast?

Slow!

It's the 1st "5 Minute Habit" in our series of building sustainable healthy habits for the rest of your life.

This is one of the most important habits to maintain over your lifetime to ensure health.

Not only can you be healthy but fat loss comes 10x easier if you aren't stuffing yourself until "FULL".

How to eat slowly is one of the most effective ways to achieve fat loss and be healthy. When we tell our clients, “The first step to weight loss is to eat slowly” they usually look back at us in bewilderment.

If you’re anything like our clients, keep those eyes as wide as you like because I’m going to explain to you the benefits that you’re missing out on. This is one of the most successful tools we use to get our clients RESULTS.

Eating slowly allows the brain the time it needs to receive a satiety signal. It takes about 20 minutes for your hormones to tell your brain you are full and don’t need anymore food.

If we eat too fast (most of us do) we over eat before our brain gets the signal to stop eating. This is when you go back for seconds or thirds.

Over the years research has shown that those who eat slowly are better off than those who eat food like a vacuum. This study found, “Eating quickly had a significantly greater association with risk of metabolic syndrome, for both sexes, than eating slowly…”. Now lets discuss the benefits and how you can make this a lifestyle change forever.

Eat Slowly For Life
If you can not only learn how to eat slowly but turn it in to a habit you’ll reap the rewards of fat loss and have a healthier lifestyle. This habit will also help you manage emotional eating, binge eating, portion control, and leave your meal feeling satisfied not stuffed.

The benefits outweigh the effort ten fold.

Eating slowly leads to less weight gain over a lifetime
If you’re eating slowly it will increase how full you are sooner
The more often you feel full the less often you’ll snack
Your portion size will probably drop overtime due to eating slowly
People that eat slowly tend to have less cravings
If you’ve ever had problems with digestion this will improve with eating slowly.

Eat Slowly Is Our Cornerstone
Here in our corner of the world, Valparaiso Lift Lift Fitness we consider eating slowly to be a cornerstone habit. If our clients didn’t manage to make this a habit before some other healthy habits the chances of success were less.

Don’t skip ahead to the other habits, we want you to get the results you want sooner rather than later. Lock this habit down and then you can move on to our next fat burning habit, “Stop Eating at 80% Full”.

If you haven’t watched our video on creating habits, go do it now. Then you’ll be ready to seize the day and eat slowly.

WHAT IS THE 5 MINUTE HABIT?

Do you have 5 minutes? You can make a permanent habit then!

The 5 Minute Habit Challenge is here.

If you can take 5 minutes out of your day for 7-14 days you can build a habit.

There are *** Five Rules *** to play in this challenge. These rules are put in place to ensure your success.

#1- Pick one habit to work on at a time. Not two or three, one!

#2- Start with an easy habit that can build up to a bigger habit. Need to make flossing a habit? Commit to flossing one tooth, not your whole mouth. One tooth, not two teeth! Trust me, this is the sustainable way to build a habit.

#3- The habit must be measurable. Don't use a generic statement like "get better" or "improve". Be Specific! Improve my squat weight by 5lbs.

#4- Be CONSISTENT. If you can't take 5 minutes out of your day to attack a habit, this challenge isn't for you.

#5- Give yourself Grace. This is a process, don't expect to master a habit in a couple days. And make sure you don't beat yourself up if you stumble and fall a little bit. We are human, we make mistakes. Judge yourself by how fast you get up and not by how many times you fall.
