I have a 2010 mid-year Macbook Pro and the internal speaker sound went away on me for a while. After doing some internet research the fix wasn't obvious. Basically after becoming vary concered about potential physically broken hardware I figured out that if you can find some apple headphones, plug them in and then unplug them the internal speakers will start working again on the laptop. Hope this helps.
