Learning how to focus a DSLR camera is a lot more involved than many people think. There are so many cinematic maneuvers you can do with focus but many of these shallow depth of field techniques are much more challenging if you're a single operator. When I started out filming focus was a big challenge for me. I didn't have a camera and lens combination that gave me an option to use auto focus. Now that I have a great native lens with a trusted camera body I still only reserve autofocus for specific situations.
