I've handled many cases, where people simply forget to appear on a summons. They’ll tell me, “I got a ticket seven years ago. They suspended my driver's license, but now I want to clear it all up.” I've handled many of these cases, and I actually enjoy handling them because there's a history to them and usually, through that history, we can get a very nice result. The idea is to contact the court, where they may require you to post a bail directly, or they may simply say, “We're not allowed to ask you for bail, but we'll set up a new court date for you.” When I handle it personally for my clients, I will contact the court by letter and by phone, set up a new court date, and then the client and I will go in. I'll speak to the prosecutor, find out if it's still a viable case, and if not, try and get the case dismissed.
