How to increase plastics recycling in Europe?

The pilot project REMIX is a Preparatory action for Recycling of Mixed Plastics Waste which has been commissioned by DG GROW, and performed by PEP – Technical Centre of Plastics Engineering, PRE, Plastics Recyclers Europe and EuPC, the European Plastics Converters. For mixed plastics fractions, REMIX aims to identify opportunities to increase the recycling of mixed plastics waste with a focus on specific case study on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
REMIX intends to assess the current situation and identify opportunities to decrease the quantity of non-recycled mixed plastics by exploring new markets for recycled plastics while not jeopardizing the current single material streams. REMIX yields identification and will sustain the development of new recycling channels based on sustainable technologies and business models, to develop technological solutions for the sorting and material recycling of mixed plastics across Europe. Among other mixed plastic streams the REMIX project has been focusing on the WEEE plastic waste as one of the most challenging streams to be sorted and recycled.
