How to make a DIY homemade sand timer out of scrap
ChannelKartheek KDescription from the creator
Sand timer made from useless (burnt out) electric bulbs and piece of wood from a necklace box and sticks..... Everything from scrap
Steps:
1. Take two electric bulbs and remove the filament and all the metal parts leaving only the glass bulb
2. Grab some fine sand and fill one of the glass bulbs. You can use salt or any fine colorful granular material. I used sand for a natural look... after all its a sand timer :-)
3. Take a hard paper or any plastic sheet and cut it into a small circle with diameter equal to that of mouth of the glass bulb and put a small hole in the center, small enough just to allow the sand to fall. Make sure that the hole is not big or else the sand will fall fast and the fun will end before you know it.
4. Hot glue both the bulbs with the card with hole sandwiched in between
5. With trial and error, you can adjust the amount of sand to your desired run time. It all depends on the amount of sand and size of the hole.
6. The sand timer is ready, but its delicate and cannot stand on its own. So you need to make a stand or frame. You can fashion it out of anything available household items.
7. I had a waste necklace box lying around. So I took it apart and I got the wooden piece. I made it into two halves, drilled holes for sticks. Fitted the glass bulbs in the frame with styrofoam and glue.
Ta da...... The sand timer is ready
For longer run time, you can do this using big plastic bottles.
