Quick Tip Tuesday #3 How to make a smart playlist in iTunes.

When DJing, a poorly organized music library Allan be the death of your set. In this DJ Quick Tip I’ll show you how to make a smart playlist in iTunes that self updates when new music is added to the library.

This tactic can be used in many DJ softwares like rekordbox as well. I use iTunes to organize my music because Traktor does not have this feature.

1) open iTunes and in the file menu, select new and click smart playlist.
2) When the parameters open pick the parameter you desire. In this case we’re going to choose Genre.
3) Type the genre that you desire in the field that follows and click OK. In this case we picked the Genre Pop
4) now all of the genres that contain Pop Music are in this playlist.
5) You can add as many paraders as you like. To add another, click the Edit Rules button.
6) Click the plus sign and this time we’re going to pick the Name parameter. In the subject field type in clean and click ok. Now all of the clean tracks with a genre that contains Pop are in the playlist.

There are many different combinations to fine tune any playlist. Sometimes with multiple parameters will contradict each other. If this is the case choose any instead of all in the Edit Rules tab.
