How To: Make Vintage Teacup Candles

You will need:
A teacup and saucer
Paraffin wax pellets (100g per 100ml of which the teacup will hold),
Candle dye (10g will colour 1kg of wax),
Fragrance if desired (essential oils for candle making),
Pre-waxed wicks with metal sustainers (long enough to leave 2" at the top,
Wooden skewers (to suspend the wicks from),
A large saucepan,
Aluminium tin cans,
Gloves,
Kitchen Roll.

Step by Step:
1) Find yourself a teacup and saucer to use for the candle
2) Purchase all items from eBay or your local craft store
3) Suspend the wicks from the wooden skewers, ensuring that the metal sustainer is at the bottom of the teacup
4) Measure the quantity of wax pellets you will need - fill the tea cup with water to the level you would like the candle and measure this. If it is 100ml, you will need 100g of wax pellets. I had 250ml per teacup and so used 250g of wax per teacup.
5) Add the desired quantity of wax pellets into the aluminium tin cans and place in a larger saucepan with 2" of boiling water at the bottom over a medium heat
6) Allow the wax to melt
7) Add the dye (10g per 1kg of wax). I had 250g of wax per candle and so used 2.5g of dye per teacup
8) Continue to stir the wax until it has melted and add the essential oil if desired (I used 1 lid full per teacup)
9) Once it has all melted and combined (takes about 30 minutes) turn off the heat and carefully remove the cans from the saucepan using gloves
10) Slowly pour into the teacups and ensure that the wick stays in the centre
11) Wait to cool
12) You may find that the centre sinks slightly as it cools - if so, you can repeat the above process and fill in the gaps. If anyone knows why it does this I'd be interested to know!

Where I bought the items from:
Paraffin Wax £7.95 for 1kg -ebay.co.uk/itm/11119912391...
Candle Dye 99p for 10g - ebay.co.uk/itm/20074633210...
Pre-Waxed Wicks and Metal Sustainers £3.95 for 50 -ebay.co.uk/itm/19089765580...
Teacups both for £2.50 - local charity shop
Kitchen roll, wooden skewers, large saucepan, gloves and tin cans - I had at home already

All the above came to £15.39 - and I still have more left to make more candles!
These are being used as a gift for Grandparents this Christmas.
