How to Memorize Ayahs from the Qur'an
The Qur'an is a beautiful book because it is the word of Allah. Since its revelation in the 7th century ,it has not been modified. Memorizing even a few surahs from the Qur'an will bring you great rewards in the Hereafter. Memorizing it is also key to preserve the sacred word of Allah. That is why it is important to know exactly how to successfully memorize ayahs from the Qur'an
Part 1
Preparing Yourself
1
Perform Wudu or ablution. You must have performed Wudu in order to touch the Qur'an You do not however, need Wudu to read the Qur'an online or from memory.
2
Obtain a copy of the Qur'an and a translation in the language you understand. It may be obtained from your local mosque or masjid.
Part 2
Memorizing
1
Read the verse you want to memorize. Familiarize yourself not only with the Arabic but also the translation. This should help you understand the verses in context, and should make it easier to remember
2
Recite the ayah six times while looking at the Qur'an. Read it carefully, looking at every letter and sign. If you have a colour-coded Qur'an, utilize the colours by perfecting your Tajweed or elocution.
3
Recite the ayah five times from memory. If you forget the verse, go back to the previous step, but if you just need a quick glance at the beginning, and know the rest of the verse, you can take a look at the verse again.
4
Move on to the next ayah and follow the same Previous steps .
5
Recite the first and second ayahs together from memory.
6
Continue memorizing the rest of the ayahs you want to memorize using the above procedure. Don't forget to read the full translation. This should help you understand what the Qur'an is saying so that you aren't cluelessly reading it.
7
Repeat the ayahs you have memorized three times. Do this until you're certain everything is in your head.
8
Get someone to test you . It can be difficult to test yourself, and sometimes you can get a bit bored learning on your own, so get someone who is also pure, willing, and able to read to test you. If you get mistakes, don't worry! Keep reading to them until you think you know it properly.
9
Go through any past verses or pages memorized. Once you've memorized a couple of pages or a range of verses, make sure you stop and get someone to test you on them before you tackle another few pages. Remember, there's no point going forward when you're forgetting everything else you've learnt.
Part 3
Learning Speedy Memorization
1
Read the ayah 20 times or 10 times. Don't read too fast, as you might stutter and find it difficult to pronounce the words.
2
Recite the ayah five times for memory.
3
Read the ayah again, five times. Take a look at the translation to get an understanding of the verses.
4
Recite from memory. Get someone to test you once you've learnt about half a page.
