Description from the creator

Rotexmedica hydroxocobalamin (hydroxo-B12) ampoules are labeled as 1ml contining 1mg/ml of B12. However the ampoules actually contain 1.2 ml so I made 2 syringes of 0.6ml each.

Someone raised some questions about the video:

- Cleaning the ampoule is just a precaution and is a personal preferance to keep everything that touches the ampoule as sterile as possible. The swab can be re-used by keeping it clean and spraying it liberally with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) with each use.

- Snapping in the packet gives some protection from a shattered ampoule top - it has protected me when the ampoule did shatter. There are many reports online and in social media of lacerations from shattered ampoules. There are further numerous reports in the medical literature of lacerations from the same thing although anesthesiologists usually deal with larger ampoules. A cheap plastic ampoule breaker would avoid all this.

- Why two syringes? It is a personal preferance, but here are my reasons:
1. some people feel that B12 works better with more frequent dosing of smaller doses.
2. it gives the flexibility to dose less than one ampoule at a time if desired. The syringe needs to be stored in a light-tight package in a cool environment (fridge is fine).
3. it is technically possible to use a single syringe and fill to its 1ml capacity, however this wastes a substantial amount (0.2ml is wasted, as the ampoule contains 1.2ml and not 1ml), or it can be overfilled but the plunger is not secure and it is awkward at best
4. 30G diabetic syringes such as shown are perfect for subcutaneous injections, they are easy to obtain without a prescription from any drugstore in many parts of the world, relatively cheap and high quality. Two part syringes e.g. Luer lock, are harder to obtain, especially in the combination of 28-30G and greater than 1ml size.
